Where in the World to Go on an Authentic Safari

A true African safari has been on my bucket list for years. While I haven't gone on one yet, I'm always doing research on safaris for the future.

Whether you have a travel bucket list or take each vacation as it comes, there is something many of us dream of experiencing in our lives: going on a safari. However, the world is a big place, and it can be hard to decide where in the the world to go for an authentic safari. The animals, setting, and the people can make or break a vacation. But don’t worry, I have you covered with some of the top picks for that experience you’re looking for.

Kruger National Park, South Africa

Of course, if you’re looking for somewhere to start your search for an authentic safari, is there anywhere better than South Africa?

Kruger National Park is located to the north of the country, and here you will be able to see a whole host of animals. The Hoyo Hoyo Safari Lodge is one of the many places to stay where you will be able to get up close and personal with some of the local residents, including elephants, giraffes, and even the wild hogs they have running around the place.

Plus, the tours offer you the chance to see all the animals in their natural environment, just as it should be.

Serengeti National Park, Tanzania

There are so many draws to Tanzania, it can be hard to know where to start. The country is famous for the vast number of animals that collect across the land meaning you should be able to get a sneak peek of a few in their natural homes.

As if that wasn’t enough, the Serengeti National Park is famous for its zebra and wildebeest migration that happens every year. Still not sold? Many companies offer up packages where they’ll do all the hard work of organizing travel and sightseeing for you, leaving you plenty of time to take in the incredible atmosphere.

Volcanoes National Park, Rwanda

Did you know that mountain gorillas only live in Africa? Sadly, deforestation has meant these gorillas are now on the critically endangered list as there are now thought to be around 880 left in the world.

So a trip to the Volcanoes National Park will give you a safari with a difference. Rather than trekking through the desert in a Jeep, you can now hike through the mountains and see these incredible creatures in their natural habitat before it’s too late.

Not only will you get the chance to learn all about their behaviors and natural habitat, but you could also help towards their conservation before they are gone.

Etosha National Park, Namibia

This is one of the most famous national parks in the country thanks to the host of animals protected by the rangers. From giraffes to lions, and rhinos to cheetahs - the Etosha National Park has it all.

Plus, with 23% of the park being made up of salt pans, there is the chance to experience a view like no other.

It’s not just creatures on the land that will keep you occupied either. Etosha National Park is home to a range of birds that put on their own acrobatic displays each day while the other animals are hiding away.

Heading to Africa is one of the best ways to see so many of these creatures in their natural habitat. Finding somewhere in the world to go for an authentic safari doesn’t have to be as daunting as it once seemed, but if you have any other ideas or tips then be sure to leave them in the comments below!
