3 Small Freedoms That Make a Big Difference as a Digital Nomad
I’ve come to realize a few seemingly small freedoms I have as a business owner that make a HUGE difference - here are some examples:
1. Wearing whatever I want to wear.
I can wear a swimsuit by the pool while working on my laptop, or a flowy sundress on a prospective client call.
No dress codes. No uniforms. And I am still taken seriously.
2. Travel as often as I want to.
This isn’t a new realization by any means (the reason I wanted to start an online biz five years ago was location-independence) but the ability to book a trip without permission from a boss or without it affecting my work never gets old.
Earlier this year, I put my stuff in storage and have been traveling full-time, having bounced back and forth between Bali and Europe.
I am enjoying working along the Mediterranean during European summer, and at cafes here in Bali.
Plus, I am touring villas to possibly rent or buy in Bali, and am getting better at surfing during my morning sessions!
This would be a lot more difficult if I were required to work in an office back home, or required to be in a specific time zone/city if I worked remotely for a company instead of working for myself.
3. Creativity and forward-thinking ideas.
Whether it is coming up with new ideas for a client’s social media strategy, playing around with graphics, or expanding my vision and processes for myself and my team, I have the freedom to do it.
There’s no one telling me “It doesn’t work that way,” or “This is just how we’ve always done it,” or some other response that prevents things from evolving quickly. 🐆
I am incredibly grateful for the choices I’ve made and blessings I’ve experienced along the way.
It was not easy at the start (and honestly, for me, it was mostly my mindset that was in the way, as well as not knowing how to best structure my marketing services at the beginning), but it has been so worth it to get where I am now.
If you are starting out with your business (or grappling with the fear of making it happen in the first place), know that every person who ever began an entrepreneurial journey started from zero and grew from there.
It’s tempting to get caught up in all the “what ifs,” I know - I’ve been there - but I highly encourage you to focus on your why -
Why you wanted to start this in the first place. What freedoms you get to have that you might not have had otherwise. You’ve got this.
