7 Things I’ve Learned From 7 Years of Travel Blogging

7 Things I've Learned from 7 Years of Travel Blogging - goseekexplore.com

Today is the 7 year anniversary of my travel blog, Go Seek Explore!!!

In true GSE fashion, I’ve rounded up seven lessons I’ve learned from the past seven years of blogging.

I figured I'd send these your way since these lessons can apply to blogging, career, business, or any new project or venture you are working on!

I wrote this post on my actual blog-a-versary on May 13, 2021, but completely forgot to publish it! Enjoy!

1) Don’t doubt your intuition to start or do something you feel called to start or do.

When I started my blog on May 13, 2014, it was the in-between period of me living in Italy working for a study abroad company and moving to Arizona, where I lived for 2 years.

This blog was something I looked forward to every day during that weird transition of moving back to the US and landing my old job in AZ.

2) Feel the fear, and do it anyway.

I’ve had to stretch my comfort zone a LOT with blogging + putting myself out there with social media.

Hitting "publish" on Day 1 - and sharing it with my friends on Facebook - was SO nerve-wracking...but so worth it.

It feels much better to have gone through the other side (and realize what you feared wasn’t bad at all!!) and know that you did it, or at least tried, than the regret and self-guilt of not doing it at all.

3) It is better to start now and then adjust course as you evolve.

I’ve grown a lot and my blog has evolved with me.

My goals have evolved.

I even have experience making money blogging and have a full on marketing company that I talk about on the blog for those looking to do the same!

And with that, the blog and everything I cover and teach has evolved and expanded as well.

4) Stay committed.

Sometimes your intuition calls you for something bigger, and it isn’t easy.

Blogging is NOT easy, nor quick to set up (there’s tech, SEO, content creation, photography, traffic and lead gen, just to name a few).

And blogging isn’t something that gives you an immediate ROI!

I started and always will stay committed due to my passion for creating inspirational and advice-filled content that helps people pursue (and achieve) their digital nomad & travel goals, whether or not there is money involved.

5) Stay consistent.

Even though I’ve blogged less this past year ("hashtag #2020" haha), I never stopped completely.

This is what separates any blogger or biz owner in it for the long haul vs. those who try and give up when they can’t find the motivation to stay consistent.

Remembering your “why” will help with this!

6) Learn from people who are 2-3+ steps ahead of you.

Stop making it so hard on yourself, and hire a mentor or take a course!

7) Never limit yourself!

We as humans are limitless beings.

When I started my blog I just wanted to reach an audience and share all the advice that was spilling out of me.

I didn’t even dream of being where I am today after all these years, and that’s because I was always open to growth.

Bonus lesson: when you love what you do, it hardly feels like work.

When I am blogging, creating, editing photos, or creating/delivering workshops and programs, I am entirely lit up.

I feel so creative and that makes me very happy. I love it!!

There are times when blogging IS work - when I’m doing a workshop, updating my Pinterest course, fulfilling content for a sponsored brand collaboration, or fixing tech issues -

Even though some pieces are not always enjoyable or glamorous, it all fits within my biggest reason and motivation/meaning for what I do.

I love blogging (win) and I know my work inspires and helps other people (win-win).

THANK YOU for the support over the years, whether you’re new or have stuck around since day one!

Cheers (from Tulum)!
