Fall in Phoenix: Climbing "A" Mountain in Tempe (Video!)

Hayden Butte, referred to as "A Mountain" for its golden letter A, is a common weekend workout for many but also a rite of passage for students at Arizona State University. More of a large hill than an actual mountain, it still provides a fun way to get some quick exercise in while taking in the views of Tempe and the Downtown Phoenix skyline. A Mountain is easy to get to, situated right off Mill Avenue and just north of ASU's Tempe campus.

Now that the desert weather is finally cooling down to the double digits in The Valley, hiking season - without the risk of heatstroke - is back on!

Enjoy this short video I made after climbing A Mountain with my friend Brooke this weekend.

If you're looking for a hike in the Phoenix area and don't want the intensity of Camelback, nor the ease of walking around Papago, this is a great alternative.

It takes about 10-20 minutes (depending on your speed) to get from bottom to top and still gets you breathing and your leg muscles tense. To make the exercise portion more difficult, try running up and down multiple times!
